La fuerza centrífuga se origina con el movimiento de un cuerpo rígido sobre una trayectoria curvilínea y se describe como la fuerza de inercia que actúa desde el centro de giro hacia fuera. La fuerza contraria a la fuerza de inercia es la fuerza centrípeta. La magnitud de ambas fuerzas es la misma, pero con una dirección opuesta. Las fuerzas centrífugas se producen en todas las máquinas rotatorias, por ejemplo, en las turbinas, y es necesario controlarlas para evitar que se produzcan daños en los elementos de máquina.
El equipo TM 600 permite estudiar las fuerzas centrífugas en diferentes condiciones. La pieza central del equipo de ensayo es un brazo giratorio sobre un eje de rotación vertical. En el brazo se pueden anclar diferentes masas. El radio de rotación se puede ajustar con la posición de las masas en el brazo. Tiene a su disposición tres masas diferentes.
La fuerza centrífuga resultante es transmitida por el brazo a una viga de flexión. Un sistema de medición electrónico registra la deformación proporcional a la fuerza y la indica de forma digital. El número de revoluciones del motor de accionamiento regulado se puede ajustar de manera continua y también se indica digitalmente. La cubierta protectora transparente que cubre el brazo rotatorio se encarga de garantizar la seguridad: el equipo solo puede funcionar si la cubierta protectora está correctamente colocada.
