En el rango subsónico se utilizan toberas convergentes. En toberas de Laval se pueden alcanzar velocidades en el rango supersónico; la geometría de estas toberas es una combinación de contornos convergentes y divergentes. Las toberas de Laval se utilizan en túneles de viento supersónicos, turbinas de vapor, motores a reacción y en la técnica de cohetes. Los desarrollos de la presión ofrecen una buena posibilidad para representar los diferentes rangos de velocidad en la tobera como el rango subsónico, el rango supersónico, así como las ondas de choque.
Con el equipo de ensayo HM 261 se miden los desarrollos de la presión en una tobera convergente y en toberas convergentes-divergentes (toberas de Laval) y se estudia el flujo real de fluidos compresibles. Adicionalmente se puede demostrar el efecto “choking”. Este efecto hace que el flujo másico ya no aumente en el momento de alcanzar la relación de presión crítica. Como fluido compresible se utiliza aire.
En el ensayo, el aire fluye a través de una tobera y es acelerado. El desarrollo de la presión es registrado en varios puntos de medición en dirección de flujo. La presión del aire delante y detrás de la tobera se puede ajustar.
Para el estudio de las relaciones de presión y velocidad están disponibles tres toberas intercambiables: un contorno convergente y dos toberas de Laval con expansiónes de distinta longitud.
Se registran los valores de medición de temperatura, presión y flujo másico.
