En la ingeniería de saneamiento de aguas residuales, el trazado de desagües es fundamental. Las inclinaciones de tuberías, entradas y salidas de tuberías, reducciones, así como secciones transversales deben considerarse en el diseño, teniendo en cuenta la interacción entre los componentes. En particular, la distribución de presión en sistemas de tuberías complejos es un gran reto para los ingenieros que trabajan en su diseño. Los fallos de diseño provocan ruidos, sifones vacíos y tuberías atascadas.
El ST 510 permite realizar múltiples ensayos del área de la ingeniería de saneamiento de aguas residuales y permite visualizar procesos del flujo en alcantarillados.
La planta de ensayo contiene un sistema de desagüe completo basado en elementos de tuberías habituales de la práctica. Las tuberías son transparentes para poder visualizar los procesos del flujo. En la parte superior de la planta de ensayo hay cisternas, que se pueden abrir o cerrar individualmente mediante válvulas electromagnéticas. Además, la tubería de derivación, las tuberías de ventilación y la descarga a presión también están equipadas con válvulas electromagnéticas. Las válvulas electromagnéticas se activan a través de un control remoto. Con ayuda de la planta pueden estudiarse el flujo y el desarrollo de presión en empalmes de distintos tipos, empalmes de tubería, modificaciones de la sección transversal y sifones en situaciones de ventilación y purga diversas. La planta dispone de un circuito de agua cerrado con depósito colector y bomba.
Para medir las presiones en el sistema de alcantarillado hay puntos de medición de presión a lo largo de la bajante. Los puntos de medición de presión se conectan mediante mangueras a tubos manométricos. La determinación del caudal se realiza a través de un rotámetro.
