La medición de la humedad del aire juega un papel muy importante en muchas ramas industriales, p. ej. en el secado o en la climatización de edificios y vehículos. Existen varios métodos de medición para determinar la humedad.
El banco de ensayos WL 201 posibilita medir la humedad del aire con cuatro diferentes instrumentos que se pueden comparar directamente: dos higrómetros diferentes, un sensor de humedad capacitativo y un psicrómetro.
Los psicrómetros trabajan según el principio del enfriamiento por evaporación y comparan la temperatura ambiente con la temperatura de bulbo húmedo para determinar la humedad. Los higrómetro aprovechan la propiedad de ciertas fibras, p. ej. de pelos, de extenderse con una humedad del aire creciente. En un sensor capacitativo se modifica la constante dieléctrica de una capa por las moléculas de agua absorbidas y, por consiguiente, se modifica su capacidad.
El elemento básico del banco de ensayos es una cámara climática con puerta transparente. Esta cámara se puede humectar así como deshumectar y contiene cuatro instrumentos. Para la deshumectación se utiliza un elemento de refrigeración Peltier. Un pulverizador ultrasónico se encarga de la humectación. Para la circulación del aire y para una buena mezcla se utiliza un soplante.
