El mecanismo “Whitworth” también se conoce como “mecanismo de retorno rápido”. Se trata de un mecanismo de yugo escocés giratorio que genera movimientos de carrera irregulares con un movimiento de avance lento y un movimiento de retorno rápido. Este tipo de mecanismo se emplea en máquinas herramienta, máquinas de embalaje y máquinas de transporte.
Gracias al mecanismo Whitworth, el equipo KI 140 genera movimientos de carrera irregulares. El equipo de ensayo está compuesto por una polea de transmisión que incluye la manivela y el acoplamiento, así como una biela y un cilindro.
El ángulo se regula mediante un plato de manivela y se lee en una escuadra graduada integrada en la placa de base. Para medir la carrera, el cilindro dispone de una regla graduada de acero de precisión milimétrica.
Los elementos se fijan sobre una placa base. Las dos asas permiten transportar y apilar el equipo fácilmente.
